Or, words that are mostly made up as needed …

I know I’ve chided a particular Television Cook-Like Personality for her choice of made-up words, but a quick re-reading of my own site here makes me realize that I’ve made up quite a few of my own. Short definitions and reasonings ahoy!

Administrivia Not my word, but one I like. I have added adminswizardy to the lexicon to denote specific actions that Super Users do to make things work.

Facebookering Action verb that denotes the act of reading, updating, or otherwise manipulating information on one’s Facebook account.

Facebookery A descriptive name for what can be done on/with/to the Facebook social network site.

Fontification The use of varied font types, ranging from amusing to annoying, for the purposes of establishing a look, a feel, or simply annoying people who don’t care for That Sort Of Thing.

Googly, Googler, Googlite, Googy My guesses for what Google employees call themselves. I was not far off, it seems. But Googlish terms will grow as this word is inserted into many daily lives. I found myself using it to one of the Unwired recently and forced myself to back off and speak in terms of “a search engine, such as Google”.

Net Cred Short for Internet Credentials. Used in terms of “how long/wide/deep her history/resume/experience is”. Which opinion would you rather accept – the one from a low net cred person, perhaps an anonymous poster making things up about $subject, or a high net cred person, who has documented evidence of working with $subject for years and can provide screenshots to explain her position?

Non-Breaking Period (Unicode 2065) Periods are used in things now, and should not break. We need a non-breaking period to keep URIs, phone numbers, and other full-stop-littered data strung on one readable line.

Read the Fleegling Manual (RTFM) Not a big fan of profanity, but this episode of Wow, Wow, Wubsy! gave me an alternative “F” word.

Spellcheckery The act of spell checking information by manual and automatic means.
